How to Take Functional Mushrooms (without the taste!)

You hear me talk about functional mushrooms all the time, but if you’re like, “Gross, Leah, I will NEVER eat mushrooms!” here are some creative ways to make functional mushrooms a seamless part of your daily routine. Yes, without literally eating mushrooms because Leah also HATES the taste and texture of mushrooms, but still takes them every day!

Each one has a distinct flavor (some easier to mask than others). You know my go-to brand is Eversio Wellness and one thing I love is that many of their functional mushrooms come in a capsule form which is a super quick and easy way to get them in with a glass of water (and without the flavor!). Reishi, for example, is really bitter when it's not neatly tucked into a capsule. But let’s look at a few other ways you can boost your health with functional mushrooms without actually tasting them 😅

3 Unique Ways to Take Functional Mushrooms

Hot Cocoa

I love to mix reishi into hot cocoa in the evening. The depth of cocoa perfectly balances out reishi's bitterness, resulting in a delicious and nutritious treat. However, I wouldn't recommend tossing reishi into your morning oatmeal like you can do with the 3 Mushroom Blend (Awaken Blend), for example!

Sauces or Soups

On one of our past podcast episodes, I was joined by Desiree Caruso, a Naturopathic Doctor and advisor at Eversio Wellness and she also shared some great ideas for incorporating functional mushrooms into your day. One of my favorite ideas? She stirs them into dinner sauces! This not only masks the bitterness (looking at you, reishi!), but also elevates the overall flavor of the meal. I also think this would work great for soups as well as sauces! So, if you're looking to add a savory twist to your evening dishes, consider infusing them with the goodness of mushrooms.

Popsicles or Smoothies

Now, here's a fun one – I've been on a mission to sneak immune-boosting foods into my toddler's diet, so I've started blending mushrooms into homemade popsicles. It makes them easy and enjoyable to eat. I mix mushrooms with berries and avocado, so they're not just healthy but also super tasty. And guess what? My little one absolutely adores them and has no idea about the mushrooms! Or if you’re not interested in popsicles, this method could work just as well for smoothies.

It just goes to show how versatile and adaptable these mushroom extracts can be. There are no strict rules when it comes to incorporating them into your life. You can get as creative as you want and add them to your coffee, tea, smoothies, soups, sauces, and even popsicles – the possibilities are truly endless!

Ready to try functional mushrooms?

And when it comes to choosing a functional mushroom supplement to start with, the good news is that these mushrooms are so adaptable to support YOUR unique needs! There is no one perfect routine; you can truly create your own functional mushroom stack to support your health goals. Whether it's the calming power of reishi, the energy boost of cordyceps, or the brain-boosting magic of lion's mane, there's a mushroom for basically every aspect of your health.

But if you’d like a convenient, all-in-one solution to kick-off your functional mushroom journey, the 4 Mushroom Blend (Balance Blend) from Eversio Wellness, combining reishi, maitake, shiitake, and lion's mane, is a stellar option, offering support for various aspects of your health journey. I can’t wait for you to give functional mushrooms a try!
